Our Work - North Brisbane Catchments

What we do:

North Brisbane Catchments is a community organisation made up of unpaid volunteers.

Plantings: North Brisbane Catchments frequently applies for grants to cover the costs involved with plantings which enhance our environment and habitat. Plantings also take into consideration food for wildlife.

Bushcare: This involves ongoing maintenance of previous plantings and rehabilitation of other areas. Slow but sure removal of invasive growth makes way for natural regeneration. NBC now has five of its own Bushcare groups – One at Virginia, one at 7th Brigade Park, one at Goldberg Place Park in Bridgeman Downs, one at Rainbow Lorikeet Park in Aspley and one at Wendon Way in Bridgeman Downs (platypus territory!). There are many more Bushcare groups directly under BCC’s Habitat Brisbane project.

Wildlife: Our wildlife can’t vote. An important focus is our resident wildlife which includes wallabies, koalas, echidnas, iconic birds and more in several important bushland reserves such as Chermside Hills Reserve and Raven Street Reserve. Significant local wildlife sightings can be reported on iNaturalist.

Advocacy: Our local knowledge is of inestimable value. North Brisbane Catchments identifies opportunities to improve our environment and habitat, researches them and writes submissions to be put to government at all levels. We also confer directly with BCC Councillors and Members of Parliament. North Brisbane Catchments is not aligned with any political party.
